Theron Gerald Boone (1944-2014)

Theron Gerald "Jerry" Boone 70, of Ventura, died Sunday. He was born January 27, 1944 to the late Theron and Adel Boone in Long Beach CA. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1961 and received a BS in electrical engineering from Cal State Berkley in 1967. He worked for the Department of Defense Naval Air Warfare Center - Weapons Division for his entire career until his retirement in 2009.

He was passionate about his faith in God and building relationships with the people around him. He spent most of his life in ministry and loving those around him. He was an avid cyclist and Boy Scout leader. He was president of the Ojai Valley Century bike ride which was created to raise money for Ventura County's Boy Scouts. He was a patriot and had a deep love for his country.

We would like to thank the wonderful people at the Ventura Baptist Church who cared for dad so well as well as those at the Ventura Townhouse who loved him dearly! We can't thank you enough!

In 2011 he was diagnosed with Multiple myeloma in 2011 and leukemia in 2014 which took him after a short 6 weeks.

He is survived by two daughters Jenny Vick, Kirsten and Trevor as well as brother Alan and sister Grace.

Planning continues for the 2015 ride and we look forward to a great ride!

Half and full metric, full century, double metric and hammerhead. Full support and sags, patches, rest/food stops, post-ride BBQ.

Welcome to the tenth annual Ojai Valley Century Bike Ride. Ojai is a Shangri-la nestled below the stunning mountain views of the Los Padres National Forest. We are fortunate to have the mix of flat, coastal, mountains, beautiful country, and usually good weather all in one place.

We look forward to seeing you on the ride and see why the Amgen Tour of California selected this route four years: Stage #4 (2013) and Stage #6 (2006-2008).

Bicycling Magazine, with readership over 2 million, recommended our ride in their guide to best cycling (May 2009, page 28). In 2012 Active.com named our ride first in their write-up 10 Rides to Do Your Own Tour of California".

We are striving to make this a ride of choice for the area and solicit any feedback you may have so that we may continue to improve the event each year. We have received many accolades from the event riders. Each year our management team incorporates many improvements to the ride. New this year, the 4 mile section down the coast into Ventura on the Hwy 101 bike lane has recently added K-rail concrete barriers to completely separate bikes and freeway traffic!
